Interesting. The rumen serves as a built in heater. Now what they really need to do is to work on the fermentation thing..... But if I recall correctly, fermentation produces sugar, which is probably how they convert the hay into energy. It is only later in the process that fermentation turns sugar in to alcohol. So, I'm assuming it is not good to feed 'em grapes or high sugar fruits.

So, While I was flogging on the trailer, I was ruminating on what you said about cows. I guess that's where the phrase "I'll have to chew it over" came from.
It is amazing what you can learn from cows!

Yep, you can also toll a whole herd with a feed bucket by yourself but just try pushing one of them by yourself.
Which leads me to the bright idea, if I suspend a small gas can in front of my bow a few feet shouldn't that make my boat go faster?

Too bad humans don't have 4 stomachs.........could save a lot of money not buyin' beer ~ ......
I feed our cattle left over fruits and veges and so far the only thing I've noticed is the last one we butchered had a slight flavor of Port (wine) ~

Jane: You could be onto something here. Feed 'em vanilla beans and get vanilla flavored beef. Nah, even better. Fix those critters a big pile of brownies!!! Yum!

I guess you're correct. Like Dee said, she will give our's some left overs. I don't really agree with it, but at the same time, it doesn't seem to be detrimental to their overall health. I supose it's like with us, moderation is key. Truth is, I don't know. I will do some research on that one.
I've seen cattle breakdown a fence to get to a garden. I've seen them destroy a watermelon patch. Was it their fault? or was it they've been deprived of the nurishment they needed?
You just got to love an 1100 pound dog! If they don't know you, well it can be interesting to say the least.
Just ask Les about "range cattle". I don't like them, & I don't think Les likes them much either. Just ask him about the time he needed to haul ......never mind, he wll just get mad.....

Garett, got my stories mixed upped. It wasn't Lester, (Although he admits he doesn't like them either), it was our friend Scott who had the experience I was thinking of.
Let me put it this way, and I'm paraphrasing Lester, 'those range cows see buggers everywhere!' In otherwords, they haven't had much human contact and can be dangerous even if prepared & experienced.
I am not experienced!
