Having worked in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) for a few weeks in the early 90’s I can validate the number of Proton automobiles, with the exception of a few worn out Toyota taxi cabs all you saw were the Proton autos. Actually it was a decent car. Good fuel economy in various configurations, (sedan, station wagons, mini vans, etc.). The only problem I had was learning to drive on the wrong side of the road & car.
One other thing to add, pedestrians, bicyclists, & motorcyclists out numbered all the cars. It was insane at red lights as the two wheelers would all congregate to the front. They were packed so tight, you couldn’t even open your car door if you had too! When the light turned green, you would swear you were at the starting line for a motocross race!

It was just crazy.
As for the auto company making an Islamic friendly version, I believe they are trying to gain market share with gimmicks similar to what our automakers have done to us. Actually, I’m surprised it hasn’t been done before now.
