Default You hit a what?

Here is a 911 call from Charleston County Sheriff's Office. Mind you that Charleston is in SC not Africa and we do not have any zoo's around here. This lady calls up and says she hit a giraffe (sp?). Now not only was there the giraffe she hit but a second one also. You have to listen to the tape in the link below. The dispatcher is better than me because I would have been laughing my backside off. It is calls like this that keep my job entertaining.

I see giraffes all the time...you must not be looking for them

Are you a 911 dispatcher?

Nope a road officer. I get to see these people face to face. It is even better in person.

Gotcha...I'd imagine you get some good stuff.

Up here in Blacksburg I had a cop tell me that if you're bored on a Saturday night just hang out with them, instant cure for your boredom.

My area is not as interesting as some I work for a municipality just outside of Chas, SC that is mostly upper middle class. They can be a pain in the arse but yeah we get some good calls. Like a 18 or 19 year old girl running down the street naked. She was jogging for Jesus, I kid you not. We had an interesting conversation while she was running and I was driving beside her waiting on my partner to arrive. But where do you grab a naked girl that will not stop running with out leaving yourself open for an IA investigation. I am sure that if either of us had a camera in our car it would have been even funnier watching us with blue lights flashing adding to the effect. And there is nothing like getting on the interstate late at night and watch the car a couple hundred yards ahead of you walk of leave your brand new crown vic like it is sitting still even though I had it on the floor trying to at least get a tag to pass along to the next agency over. I did not even call it out because all I ever saw was two taillights.

You need one of the new Chargers:

I want one so bad I can taste it but I don't think it would have caught it either. I think it was either highend exotic or a built up muscle car. When I got on the brakes and slowed down it was cresting the bridge so I looked at my odometer and from where I was to the crest of the bridge was one mile. I wanted a Charger against a conv. 350Z that ran on me but the tag I got led me right to his house. The look on his face when I showed up at his house twenty minutes later was priceless.

We had a Z28 but you could not keep a serpintine belt on it. Talked to some friends who are die hard bowtie fans and they said that was common at high RPM's and the only way to solve it was with an underdrive pully on the crank. We couldn't do that because it would reduce power output on the alternator and all the equipment in a patrol car needs juice. LED lights are helping out on power needs a lot now and they make my unmarked a lot more visable when activated. I hope the Chargers hold up but our chief does not like them he loves Ford and says we do not have problems with them. Even though I lost count of the recalls and other major problems on mine.
