Default Laminectomy - Anyone gone through it?

Looks likes I'm headed that way. So far I've seen one Orthopedic surgeon and one Neurosurgeon. Seems like they both agree this is the best way to go. Whats the "Real" recovery time. I was told by both I would be in the hospital for 2-3 day. No work or sex for at least 4 weeks after surgery and back to work 6-7 weeks from surgery. They both said that week 1 would be pretty painfull. Not only are they cutting skin, but cutting muscle and bone also.

I have two close friends who have had it done. One came out superbly and the other wonders if he did the right thing. They were done by different surgeons and from listening to them discuss it, the surgeon is probably the biggest variable. With that in mind, just make sure the guy with the knife is good.

Thanks

I think the guys I'm dealing with are the best money can buy. After all is said and done I will see a total of 4 different surgeon. One is from U of Penn, two are from the Rothman Group at Jeff who work on the Flyers and Eagles guys and one if from Temple. But with my luck I'll pick the worse.

educate yourself......www.spineuniverse.com

make sure you have tried everything else first unless you have 3 specific symptoms:

1. Urinary incontinence.....new of course
2. Weakness and/or paralysis of one of your extremities....this means the nerve is getting pinched significantly and the goal is to save the nerves so u dont lose function and dont suffer in pain.
3. Pain that hasnt responded to anything else for 6 months.

Good luck.
