Default Thanks Blue H20

Well each time I'm able to get down, Chris has provided great info. Yea did'nt have a great day but, 2 trips two marlin hits (that's what keep ya comin back).
While in dock I put in the last marlin encounter from my last trip with Chris and this years and it's unreal. Two years difference and on the same contour line pretty much outside of the normal areas.
Glad to see that Chris and his brother had better luck.

The biggest gain from this trip was learning the lingo of the different lines. I've always used GPS and never had the need for Loran (looks like I got some converting to do) in the Garmin.

No problem Eddie, glad you guys were able to get out and get some fishing time in!

As far as loran goes, a used Furuno rd-30 can be had for 200 these days, and it's a great little back-up unit for your main plotter. Then you could run GPS on your main, and the Furuno would show you lat lon then also give you a bearing to get back to the sea buoy if your main ever took a dump while offshore.

I haven't had a loran for a few years now.. are you guys still getting loran signal?? I do miss not having one as it was so easy to run to a location without even putting the #'s in. Been using gps only tho for at least 5 years and thought they dismantled the loran system earlier this year. (I even gave my last loran away).

Libra no signal just ghosting on the GPS. I keep one gps on lat/long and one on TD's.
I like the site below you can add the TD's as well as other things to the Rutgers temp chart ....Mark

After we got back to PC that's what we did, Garmin 5212 on Lat/Lon and the 4208 on the other. As stated it's a usefull backup tool. I've had two encounters with the GPS units almost like the Devils Triangle right before coming back into Oregon Inlet. Can't explain why but, lost the track not on one but, both units. Not a good feeling. The backup Garmin hand held kept the track. I spoke with the tech at West Marine in Nags Head and he also said that the Garmin could convert the Loran numbers, I've got to play with that and see how it goes.
