Banana on a Boat Bad Luck Myth ?????
My buddy All Day Ray has some family in town & he wanted to put them on some fish, so he booked a trip with Capt. John.
Too many for one boat, so I offer my boat, another chances to fish, turns into a friendly family competition, with some quality trash talking - I am in!
We meet up with Capt. John at the dock, he gives us exactly what he will be using, the same rigs he's been catching fish on for the last few weeks
& tells us to follow him out to sabiki up some live Cigar Minnows.
A slow beginning with 2 sabikis going at once - rigs tangled like pretzels, hooks in finger, hands & clothing, you know the usual.
After all these folks from the Indiana don't have much saltwater experience.
But they do get the hang of it & end up with a live well of healthy Cigar Minnows.......
We follow Capt. John's instructions, following in his track - same speed, same spread, same ledge, every bait is swimming great.
But he's catching fish while we are waiting for our first hook up. We are getting frustrated & his family is losing interest.
Then it happens, a double hook up, 2 citation sized Seagulls.......
That's right we are catching Seagulls, hooked & released 3 Seagulls - has to be a state record ???........
We did manage 1 BSB on the downrigger & also managed to lose the bet.
On the ride back, All Day Ray can't explain the bad luck to his family & jokingly mentions the banana myth........
Dan his father-in-law offers us the one he brought for lunch & proceeds to get a nice yellow banana from his lunch sack.
Is a banana on a boat bad luck ???? - it's not an urban myth, not for me anymore....... ICM
