Default Bought a $200 "project" motorcycle and lucked out.

Scored on a craigslist 1976 Yamaha 500. Bought it for $200, unloaded it at 5:30 and went and got dinner, swung by the autoparts store for a fresh battery and 2 new spark plugs on the way home and by 9:00 I was riding around the block. (No headlight, but that's just a minor detail I corrected by wearing my headlamp I use for hunting a striper fishing.)

Added it to the stable which is now up to 3 misfit bikes...

At one point I had 4 boats to my name and I was 19 years old. I'm like a collector of "projects".

Crappy thing is, you pay personal property taxes on the book value, not the "project" value, so I'm now down to 1 bike titled to me, 1 boat titled to me, and 1 jon boat that I just hope never gets stopped by the man since ownership documentation has been LOOOONG lost.

Just added another to the brood,. Another deal too good to pass up: Guy got midway through a 1977 XS650 restoration and just didn't have the motivation to finish it out, so I paid him a fraction of what he had in it and took it home (had to drive to Ohio, but luckily the fiancee's truck gets 21+mpg even with a bike in the bed). Had the frame professionally powder coated, tank and side covers professionally painted (have receipts for those two things: $1128), top end of motor rebuilt, carbs rebuilt and motor put back in frame and a ton of new/rebuilt parts were included (brakes, new headlight, two gas tanks, etc). I've got to rewire it, get some shocks and handlebars and I'm on the road:

Didn't get shots of tank or side covers but they're Corvette Millenium Yellow.

Sadly, I might hack up some of his pretty work in the name of getting something like this as a final product:

Actually, yeah, both the XS500 and the XS650 are 100% titled and legit (actually can see the tags already on the XS500 in the background of the 2nd picture.) The first picture has a background of a bike with no plastics and a spare front tire leaned against it... that bike is titled in VA and plated. Beside that bike in the background is a bike that has all the plastics, good tires, etc. and might get ridden everyday that hasn't been titled in 8 years and no one has a current title to. I'm still searching for the best way to deal with that situation...looking like I have to drive it to Atlanta, let a cop inspect it, pay a title/bond agency to underwrite a bond on it and let my buddy in ATL title it in his name with the bond attached to it and then sell it to me.

I haven't done that because that's a giant pain in the butt and for now I can maybe ride it around with the tags from the first ZX7....

And if that didn't make sense it is because I'm still thoroughly upset from the loss tonight to UNC.

Broadway Title:

Lost Car Titles, No Car Title at All?

Never used them, but might be worth looking into.

I have 2 Nighthawks (one is an "S") in my parents' garage in NY, been there for almost 7 years now. Haven't driven up there to get them yet.

If you decide you want them Greg, my fiancee is from Valley Stream (Long Island), so if the bikes are anywhere near there, I could get them to Manteo on no particular timeline.

Just FYI.

As to the titles, I'm on hold. Gotta graduate and start working and get my head above water again in life and then I'll be back to messing with them.
