Default Subsitute for Chaos rods...

Requirements:

50 to at least 100 lb test
6' minimum length (I've got an outboard on a bracket)
Roller stripper and tip, but prefer all roller
Fuji or better grip
Standup rods, not bent butt's.

Chaos went out of business, and I have some new to me TLD50LRSA's coming next month. Will be spooled with 80LB Moimoi Diamond mono. Might upgrade them to hollow core and use the loop to loop system in the future.

I've checked out Calstar, Seeker and Tsunami, and nothing seems too impressive for the price.

Need some other manufacturers to research.

I'd like to keep it under $250 per rod.

Mostly these rods will be for Oregon Inlet, NC, where we get Mahi, YFT, Wahoo, Bigeye tuna to 250 lbs, and Blue Marlin to granders.

I mostly meat fish, I try not to Billfish, but they are out there, and they could hit my spread.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

You guys know how we fish, so I'd like to hear from you.

Crowder - google them up. The FS guys switched to those as the quality at Chaos declined.

Chris, I 2nd Greg's recommendation for productions rods.

However, you should give Kevin Bogan a call before you decide what to do. He's a custom builder in NJ that will let you customize components (blanks, rollers, butts, wrap pattern, etc.) and has a very good reputation. Look at his "fish poison" standups...right at your price point.

Chris
I agree with the pencil pusher (Josh). Check out Kevin Bogan custom rods out of Brielle NJ. He made the rods we used back in 1987 and they are still in excellent condition. His prices are very good. You can get custom made rods for the price your looking for.

I had Kevin Make my planer rod. And I will have him make a few more rods to match my Chaos rods. He does a great job and is very reasonable for custom rods.. Mark

Hey Chris
I'm still using my 80-130 Calstar Grafighter rods but in the last year I've added 8 Rainshadow blank rods at about half the price. Basically the same blank - graphite/eglass blend, just an oz or 2 heavier than Calstar. Max drag in the pole holder - no 'pops' yet. Ron Dougherty Bar-Bar Custom Rods make these for me but you could check pricing from others .. maybe a better price.

Its a shame Chaos went out of business I have 3 of thier rods and really like them. I also have a couple of ugly stick customs, I don't think they make them anymore so once mine start breaking I'll need to find something new.
