Of course I saw this story yesterday but after watching the Today Show this morning it hit me how amazing of a job that pilot did. I just can imagine being able to land a full size plane in a river without tearing it apart.
Actually I heard this morning that one of the flight attendants told the Captain - "Congratulations, your are the first ever captain to perform a ditch." Amazing.
Hats off to you Captain Chesley Sullenberger III! Anytime you are flying a US Airways Plane, I am more than happy to be on board!!!
I just got a text message from a buddy who lives up in Hoboken, NJ & works in the city and it said this - "couldn't take the ferry today because there was a plane in the way...now that's a first!"
Amazing pictures of all those poeple standing on those wings waiting for rescue...and no fatalties or really serious injuries..
Great work by all involved..
That could have turned out a whole lot different, very easily. Those guys had skill & luck on their side. I always thought that under seat cushions were useless as the plane would probably break up on impact, that guy proved me wrong! I've seen em hit the water before (in videos) not a pretty site. Those passengers would not have lasted very long in that 36% water. What a way to go from ground zero (twin towers) to hero!
I fish that area all the time and i just cant imagine looking up and seeing a plane land. Saw the cranes that they used to hoist it up with on the Jersey side last night! Good thing its winter becaues in the summer thats a very crowded area for boats!!
