Poor Doggie... Needs ACL Surgery
Just made an appointment to have my older Labs ACL repaired. Which is scheduled for Tuesday the 28th.
Tough for me to do as my dogs are my kids (since I don't have any yet) & she's such a sweet dog. I can't imagine her being left in a crate overnight. Call me a big baby, but I feel bad for her!
Oh well, anyone else out there had the ACL surgery done? I seems to be more and more common with dogs these days.

That sucks
Only overnight?
Wait until the recovery. A buddy of mine had his lab done in the spring. Poor dog had to be created for about 2 weeks, and then they had to keep her in playpen for about a month. They also had to keep her from jumping for about 10 weeks, yea a 4 year old non jumping lab I never heard of such an animal.
From what I understand PT is very important

Having your lifejackets on board and not wearing them is like putting your seatbelt on during a car accident.

No when I was talking about crating, I was talking about the night or 2 she will have to stay at the vets after surgery.
My vet has told me 30 days of NO ACTIVITY! Should be fun considering my one getting the surgery is only 4 years old and other one is a CRAZY 2 year old.
I plan on taking her to my office during her recovery so she is not left home along. The younger one will go and hang out at my parents house while I am in the office.
Should be fun, oh wait not really!

OK, Thats what I thought. I've got a crazy 10 year old. She still thinks she's 2 and plays the part pretty well for all of 15 minutes. Then she needs to rest for 3 hours. Very sweet dog but dumb as a rock. I think she's the only lab in the world who does not like water, can't stand getting her feet wet.
It could be worse, it could be your ACL, my brothers dog took him out 3 years ago, ran full bore into him and dropped him like a tree, I didn't know a human could scream that loud . He had surgery 4 days later, 4 months of recovery 2 of which was in a Forest Gump brace
Good luck with your dog, I found their just like little kids in the way they bounce right back

We need to cross breed her with the weird cat I have on Maui. Most cats don't really like water. But If I am in the shower, the cat will push the curtain aside and come on in. I usually find her sleeping in the bathroom sink....... Strange cat indeed, but she has the Golden retriever's number. She'll cruise across the living room just slow enough to goad the dog into chasing her. The first thing she does is head to the kitchen, where depending on speed, the dog will lose traction on the tile and slide into the wall. After impact, the cat hops up on the refrigerator and sits there staring at the dog. It is a daily event. The cat has learned and the dog, well, it is a Golden, so what can I say. I figure we'll be fixing the drywall before the dog catches on to the cat's game

Matt,
Which local vet is this?
Just curious. Because I've been fleeced down before and encourage you to get a second opinion before the surgery if it's the vet I'm thinking of.
PM me if you'd like, or just call.

Shelby is home in 1 piece. Has a nice Pink Cast on her Leg which is suppose to stay there for a few days.
They brought her into the examining room and I will still in the waiting room, but I saw her walk in, the tech said Mr. Myatt & Shelby's head picked right up almost like "oh my god thank god he didn't leave me here."
They had a lampshade on her head which I quickly took off, put here in the car and brought her home.
Currently as we speak I am sitting on the floor with my laptop on a chair and Shelby asleep next to me. She wouldn't stop crying until I sat down on the floor with her. Guess she's Daddy's little girl...
Oh god, what will happen when I have kids!!!!
