Default need reef opinions

i know this isnt a mississippi forum but i wanted to get you guys opinions on something...
we in mississippi do not have a PRIVATE REEF PROGRAM.....we can put out reefs but DMR requires a official to be present when deploying to record the coordinates and publicize them...yes your private reef will become public after 6 months....

what im getting at here is whom should i start contacting to try and get a private reef program going and whom do i need to contact to get more public reefs put out,,i mean is it commishioners, senators, or govenors.....im going to post all of our public spots below and i want you to look at them and notice any date before 2006 is gone due to katrina so those cannot be counted as a reef any more....i bet out of all listed below you cant find 60-80% of them anymore.......i just know if our neighboring states to the east being AL/FL has a good reef program then there is no reason why we shouldnt be able to...

i guess what i am really trying to find out is how can alabama deploy over 600 reefs and just the panhandle of florida over 400 reefs .....its got to come down to federal funding and we need to figure out how to get our share......Matt if you feel this needs to be in the gulf coast section please move it, i just thought i may get more response by putting it here...thx

I would be doing a little"reef building" at night. I would not be worrying about DMR or anyone else. You build it, you fish it.

The boys in FL don't seem to worry about it. With the rigs here in the gulf ... I don't see much of a problem for us.

Okay......your saying that there Isn't enough reefs in the Mississippi coast.............YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING !!!!!!!!!!!
The coast is only 80 miles wide and between the rigs that are out there and the number of reefs you posted, that's more then there is on the Florida west coast and here your looking at about 400 miles.
The problem is that most fisherman in the Mississippi area don't know how to fish. If it not a published site or something sticking out of the water, they will not fish it. Remember what I told you about the bottom..............There's miles and miles of swiss cheese, ledges, hard bottom, drops and old rigs out there that can be fished. Without a good bottom machine and PUTTING YOUR TIME IN ON THE WATER............you won't catch s%it......
If you don't believe me I'll bet the $1000.00 you owe (double or nothing).............I'll take you fishing 50 miles out to that spot we ran over when we went to the Exxon and I'll bet that your arms will fall off from reeling in fish.

OK im stepping up on my soapbox now......

Fernando yes you are right i owe you 1k
but Fernando what you dont understand is that 80 % of recreational fisherman cant get to the 50 mile mark you are talking about....and im not talking me,because i will take my little pice of sh#t 50 miles on a given day....but some people cant get out 15 miles...

now back to your coment on florida .......you guys have over 5000 reefs deployeed off the panhandle alone....so i dont want to hear all the BS about us having rigs and so forth....

i completly agree with you on fishing live/natural bottom BUT do you know how far natural bottom is off our MS gulf coast????? LONG DAMN WAY...that takes me back to my original post ....we need more reefs closer for people to be able to get to...not just public or private.....

I know YOU can catch damn fish in a deserrt but some folks cant and all im trying to do is establish more reefs in the GOM to have a future for my son to fish.....

if you will look at the reefs deployed since 1999 off MS gulf coast ill bet you the 1k i owe you that YOU cant find 50% of them.......

am i calling you out...by no means am i ....im just trying to get you to see how we see our MS gulf coast reefs,,,(very few i might add)....you are correct ....a blind man can go to a rig and catch fish...we need 1k reefs like AL and FL to produce the #,s and size fish they are producing and then we may be able to have a snapper season longer than federal season like our neighboring states to the east........

sorry i have posted this but god there is some truth to it ....BTW call me and ill settle up with you....

BTW out of the #,s i posted if you re read my post half of them are no longer there......i checked over 50 spots and found maybe 30......(bits and pieces)

Red the thing im concerend about is you can catch snapper/grouper in the bay off forida.....because they HAVE HABITAT ,,,, you catch a legal snapper here in state waters you have accomplished a feat....im just trying to better our fisheries....hell i can send my son blindfolded out to the rigs and he can catch fish, but he would have to go 15 miles to get there ....im trying to prodauce some closer in spots to hold fish in the future.....im probally pissing in the wind but hell im trying
