Oh by the way the 400 miles I was talking about is from Naples Fl to the Perry, Fl. I was not including the Panhandle.
The big problem with what you are talking about is that you don't have the water quality and the water depth to hold the fish.
Let's see you run out 15 miles to Sparky's new reef which is in 15 to 20 ft of water..........How big will does fish get in that depth of water ?
To get to the other side of the islands is what 10 to 12 miles.
Fernando the islands are 7miles South of us...so you are off with your calculations....
i agree our reefs couldnt hold a candle to floridas, BUT WE have to start somewhere... right?
and you know as well as i do out of the OBX 30 miles you are in 3k ft of water and here you may be in 100....

I'd be buying an IKE writeoff that floats & towing that sucker out on a Sunday night or whenever the law is not around. Sink it & mark it. Come back in 90 days & see what the sounder shows. Gee, Stephen, I thought you Southern boys were into that sort of stuff.
Gotcha...I had a 'friend' who sunk a 21' boat off of NC and tried anchoring with concrete pads...didn't stay put worth a crap and is likely now somewhere near Greenland
You know there are dozens and dozens of big mothballed ships up here in Virginia. They have done a couple of studies and the cheapest way to deal with them is to strip them and turn them into reefs. Yet it is stll is damn near impossible to wade through the process to get it done. It is frustrating when the most common sense approach can be so difficult. They would be great dive destinations and great for fishing.
