I got this link sent to me in an email from my Sister.

I just heard yesterday that they may not allow some folks to re-build in some areas near the water. It could take up to a year to decide which areas they will allow re-building. If they don't let you then the law in Texas says that in a situation like this the government doesn't have to reimburse you for the value of your land. Ouch!

I'm assuming most places in the US are the same, you can not insure land, only the structure that is built on it.

If you loose your house and the land is still there and passes all setback laws and so forth yes you can rebuild.

Let's say a house sells for (easy numbers) $1,000,000 and insurance agent will not take into account the price of the land they only take into account "what is would cost to recreate the house at todays cost." So if it only takes $600,000 to rebuild the home that is what your insurance is based off of.
