Default NC boy headed out California ..............

I'm going to Irvine, CA for a few days on business sometime in March.

I would prefer to get split expenses and get into a private boat. Or a recommendation to a guide on a charter boat.

Looks like long bay is going to be the nearst to where I'm be staing

Just feel the need to sample the west coast fishery.
any input would be appreciated

thanks Robert

Robert, I think you are going to be disappointed. California has had some of the worst fishing regulations you can imagine for many years. basically the commercial folks get what they want and the recreational guys get the left overs. The seiners cleaned out all the bait fish and the pelagic fish quit coming in. A non resident license is stupidly expensive, especially since the fishing is not good.

Maybe someone else has a different suggestion, but to me, fishing off California is almost as good as moose hunting in Florida.

Just need to be at the right bars at happy hour if that's what you're hunting...

One other thought. There is a west coast sportfishing forum. You may be able to hook up with someone on it.

SF - I don't think fishing in California is going to break you - UNLESS things have really gone crazy since me & Les were there two years ago. Below is a scan of my fishing licesnce from two years ago.

Remember, Les & I were out there breaking in his new boat. I'm sure it would be more expsenive to 'charter' a fishing trip.

We were able to catch plenty of bait fish with sabiki (sp) rigs, we just didn't catch any fish - still - we had a blast!

Point - do some research, it's not at bad as you think.

Here is a copy of my licencse:

$16.80 for two days - Cheeeeeeeeeep! At least in 2005

PM me or Welder (a native) with any questions. I will HURT anyone who makes fun of my first nameTrout

What are you saying Les? Do I need to hammer you?

Or do you just want to shoot someone?

Google H & M landing, Mission Bay Landing etc. They give you the daily fish reports.

These boats have 1/2, 3/4, full, 3, 5, 7, 11, and fifteen day trips going south into Mexico and there is some epic fishing.

San Diego is about 30 minutes south of where you are going to be.
