Surgery not required(good)

So it's not so bad, I guess.

Wow! Never would have figured it to be a back issue. Glad it's not too serious.
I work with a guy who roofed his house a few years back & came to work with the exact same symptoms you described. He blamed it on the way he had to position his feet and he never went to the doctor
He's on vacation now but I'm going to let him know what happened to you as soon as he returns just for a FYI.
Now, get to bed!

Chris
I feel your pain, literally. That pain your feeling is from the fluid and or disk pressing again your sciatic nerve. I had surgery for my herniated disc L4-L5 back in Feb and I'm still not back to normal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed your disk has just a minor herniation, with luck the spine will reabsorb it.
STAY IN BED or at least Horizontal, you really need to keep your weight off your spine, if you don't........it will only get worse...........MUCH WORSE
Good Luck

Get horizontal NOW and don't push it , backs are Biotch to heal .
Even when you fell better in a few days take it easy , if the problem comes back you might be screwed.
Lester , In pain every day ........They teach classes on me at UCI Irvine, it's a loooong story.

Guy I work with can't leave his bed for 8 weeks. He was in surgery for 4.5 hours yesterday. He has no more of his vertebrae left in his neck, just a cage with some sort of cement that's supposed to one day "grow" him a new neck with what little they left in there...apparently his vertebrae were closing around his spinal cord and when surgery that "routed" out the inside of his vertebrae to make room didn't work, the just cut the majority of the bone out...

Back stuff scares me...seems like once your back starts to hurting, that's it...
Course, the guy I work with is pretty old (least to still be working...he's past 65), Chris, you're young(ish ) so you'll be fine. Just don't do anymore roofing. Stick to boating, and helping people with transmissions/clutches

Chris,
Take care of it now. Follow the doctor's orders, Chiropractor has helped me when mine was out of whack. They do work wonders.

Ain't that the truth. I have been dealing with a couple of crooked vertebrae (the L5 and the bone below it) since February. I have been going to chiropractor for two months now. He has got it back in line and its finally beginning to heal. I have been off the ibuprofen for a week now.
Chris, Hope your back heals quickly.

Sorry to hear of your injury. And, that would be a 4-12 pitch roof . I used to work as a roofer and those shallow pitch roofs are among the most dangerous to repair. I always used ropes to keep from slipping on them. Much prefer the steeper roof 10-12, as you can stand up and do the work. I hope you removed the cello tape from between the shingles? They must be removed for proper installation.
