Question Why are we paying more for gas at marina's?

With the exception of pure greed why are we paying more for gas at marinas? Gas at the dock last Saturday in North East, Maryland was $4.29. while 3 gas stations a few blocks away were around $3.79. Is it pure greed and they know boaters will pay the higher cost, or it does it truly cost them more? insurance, safety etc... The prices are based on 89 octane.

still trying to figure this one out. i don't know what state taxes are placed on the fuel if any. i know that states impose their own "road" tax on fuel at the gas station to help pay for roadways, bridges etc. but what would a gas tax on the water contibute to? i have no answers to any of these but would love more information from anyone who has it.

I don't know the real answer but I will assume it's a combination with the biggest offset to cover insurance for potential enviormental impact problems. I don't know about the road tax either and I don't think that is figured in the price per gallon at a marina. So I guess that takes it back to what FASTFJR is suggesting?....greed.

Anyone on this forum own a marina with fuel service? I would like to understand the main reasons for the big differences in pricing.

I love how "insurance" is always the big fall back. The local indoor-karting place has truly outrageous prices and when I questioned an employee about why so high, they replied with "insurance".

Really? Always insurance? I should be in the insurance industry...

That's because the Insurance companies love to take your money, but when you file a claim to get some back they don't want to give you any!!!
