Default Broking Knee

Yesterday,I got a call from my son around 12:30 telling me he had fell 10'-12' down a hole on the job.He say that he had hurt his knee.Asked if I could pick him up which was no way at the time bc of work.Well my daughter got off at 3 pm from school and pick him up and brought him to my house.Well, when I got home, one look and I told him that it is screwed. It was swolle up three times the norm, black and blue all around. So,I pick up his @ss and thru him in the truck and off to the ER.Now this is were things go to sh-t.The waiting room is full, not a seat to sit down and NOT ONE person would give him a seat.Sign in and there are 5 or 6 people ahead. After around 15-20 mins, nobody was called in.Now this is a small local place. So,I go up to the window and ask if this is a doctors' office or a ER?Of course the bitch gave me some BS for that. So,I had ask her if I needed to bring my son to Baton Rouge.Man,did that bitch really blow up.After that,I had told my son all that and he said that he would go to the Dr today which he did.

Well, now he knows that he has to go to Baton Rouge. His knee is broke and our doctor thinks more damage is done and he most likely need it cut on.The wife is driving him there as I write this. Can't get away from work. That sucks.Oh,there is more to this story. When he got hurt yesterday, they call the main boss and my son didn't want to go to the doctors, told me he could work it out.Well today after getting him an appoiment at our family Dr,he said that they need a work comp number. So,I get on the phone, talk to the people that my son works for and they stated they will not pay becouse he didn't want to go yesterday.WTF!So,a few works exchange and then I stated that I guess I will have to call my lawer. The bitch had asked me why I needed to do that?WTF!Get off the phone with her, call the Dr office and told them I would fit the bill.Couple mins pass,I get a call from my sons work and they had call the doctors office with the workers comp info.Guess the bitch didn't know who she was messing with and not dealing with a young man. That BITCH!

Sorry to hear about your last couple of days. Believe me, I know from personal experience how frustrating the ER can be. Hope your son's knee will be OK.

Dadburn!

He must have been hurtin like HEYALL!

I spend a lot of time sittin at EKL. If one of those folks that I am bringing to the iron bar hotel has been injured, they have to be treated and cleared by EKL before they can be booked. I have sat at EKL ALL DANG NIGHT many times waiting for four or five stiches (Or the like) to be done. You don't even want to know about one "Tripping out" on something.

So I feel your pain so to speak.

Hope things go well for your son.

An injury at work is covered by Worker's comp no matter when the injured person decides that medical help is needed. You can hurt your back one day and not be able to get out of bed the next day. That does not mean you are not covered.

Employers have to pay the cost of the Worker's comp insurance and the rate they pay is adjusted according to their "experience rating" or how often claims are filed. But Comp claims pay well and most hospitals are happy to take them in. Unfortunately, the ER has become the doctor's office for those with no insurance, since no hospital can refuse emergency care. That just means the real emergencies wait for the sore throats.

Thanks guys and yes he is hurting real bad.As far as the workers comp, they didn't want to make a claim. They wanted to just pay his bills out right.Doing that they don't need a higher coverage if claims are not made.I had been with the USW union for over 30 years and I do know what the law is,but small companies try to get around these laws by doing this. Also they try to put one over on younger people.Dam shame! Some of the biggest problems are when companies do a turn around in a chemical plant. They hire young people and put them in danger alot of times. What they will do is put these people were there is chemicals and even they know its not good for them, these young people are exposed to chemicals that don't show up for 15 to 20 years down the line. That is when they get sick.Who is going to pay for them then?I had a very long talk with my son and alot of his friends that do turn arounds.Boy,did I open there eyes. So,if anybody here that has family that does this kind of work, please explain what is what when they work turn arounds. If anyone needs more info,I can get it thru USW Union and pass it on.Know what?Alot of people think unions are over rated, but they do help protect workers.

Now back to my son.He will have to have an MRI come tuesday. They were unable to do it now becouse of the pain he is in.The doctor ripe his @ss becouse he worked another 1 1/2 hours after breaking his leg which did more damage. Now more on what happen. He had 5 workers working for him. What they are doing is running under ground elec lines for a football/baseball field at a school. As he told me,they had dug 12' holes to run juction lines.None of these holes had reinforcement in them.He was standing next to one directing his people and the side colaps in and he fell head first. He was very lucky that the hole didn't fill in with dirt on top of him.The law in Louisiana states that any time a hole is dug and is 3' deep or more,it has to be reinforced to prevent this from happening.Small companies will try to get around this at every chance. After explaining this to my son,he seen the light.Guess I will have time to explain more on the job safety to him over the next three to four months. That is how long or even longer as the doctor told him he will have to stay off his leg. That put tears in his eyes, that is what my wife told me.He was planning on getting married and a couple months.Don't know if this will happen or will it be put off. Also,he will not be able to offshore fish for some time which already hit him last night when I broke out some new tackle I just bought to show him and my son-n-law.OUCH!

Oh, MAN~!!!! Now that's what I call adding insult to injury. POOR GUY!!! NOT a good weekend for him and I'm SO SORRY.

I AM, however, SO GLAD that he didn't break his NECK!!! Falling into a hole like that could have been MUCH WORSE for EVERYONE. Whew~!

Also, FWIW ~ next time call 911 and go in an ambulance. MUCH faster and easier. (Experience talkin' here)

Here's to a speedy recovery~!!!
