Default Anyone Shot (or handled) the Ruger LCP

Looks like a viable alternative to the KelTec P3AT but no one around here (SW Virginia) has one in stock. 3 shops within 45 minutes of my townhouse all sold out their initial shipment within 2 days and don't know when they're getting more.

I like to touch something before I buy it if it's more than $50...and this is...so as much as I'd like to order it off of the internet and deal with FFL shipping, I'm not convinced.

Anyone have any feedback on the gun, specifically as compared to the P3AT?

Ryan,

I’ve got the KelTec 32 auto and I’m not really impressed with its’ overall construction (cheap). The gun being very concealable is the best thing about it in my opinion. I’m with you, I like to hold & feel before I buy. The Ruger LCP looks like a great upgrade from my KelTec. I hope someone who has shot it or owns it posts their opinions about it.

Here is a link to the Ruger LCP The Ruger LCP™ - Lightweight Compact Pistol

Capt. Fred, I’m a Glock man too.

I'm skinny as heck and if I stick a Block IWB it feels like I have a brick in my belt line.

A P3AT drops straight in most of my pockets and if not it'll fit IWB no problem, BUT, I agree Daddy'O, it feels cheap and that Ruger looks a little more substantial. My buddy has a S&W M&P Compact 40 and I'd take that over a glock any day, but then again S&W got sued by Glock over that design, so I reckon it is a Glock in Smith's clothes...

I can only carry the Glock when it’s cold weather, just too bulky to conceal with out a jacket or coat. That’s why I went with the KelTec. I just drop it in my shorts’ pocket & no one is the wiser in the summer time.

I’ll definitely be checking into the new Ruger. Dang it Ryan! Now you’ve got me all excited. When Farmerjane sees this she’s going to get excited too.

Maybe she will let me get the Ruger if I let her have my old KelTec.

You callen me fat? :-) I'm just big boned.

All kidding aside, the most important aspect of any handgun is does it fit your hand well enough so you hit where you are pointing. I had a compact glock 45, changed to a Ruger, changed to a baretta, changed to a sig, changed to a colt, changed back to a .40 glock. The glocks just fit my hand so the holes in the paper appear where I expect them to. Never tried S&W's version.

I agree, the fit is very important. I'll add another important note for everyone, Practice, Practice, Practice. OK, that's three notes. Sorry.

We were taking our renewal class a few weeks ago & the instructor asked all the renewals when was the last time we had shot. I was shocked to hear several say "last year", or even "the last time I took this class"! which could have been up to 5 years ago. I was able to honestly answer, "Tuesday afternoon". If he would have asked me when was the time before that, I could have honestly answered, "two weeks ago".

Practice makes Better.

Yup, that's the truth. And, nowadays you can get decent amunition for relatively cheap money for all the common calibers.
