My wife and I just walked outside to try to checkout the first stages of the eclipse and of course it's cloudy as can be on the OBX. If anyone out there gets some good pictures please post them! I was looking forward to seeing it.. Oh well.
(New Orleans, LA) -- Astronomers say there will be a total lunar eclipse tonight. Meteorologists say you may not be able to see it in New Orleans. The National Weather Service says it will be mostly cloudy at the time the Earth's shadow blocks out the moon. It is expected to begin after 7 p.m. and be complete shortly after nine. The forecast also calls for a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms tonight. Tomorrow the rain chance increases to 70 percent.
We had a cold front go through Los Angeles today, so we had a few clouds that moved quickly enough that we had a superb view of a muddy red moon. I'm still here flogging on the boat. About a week left. I'm doing the final wiring in the console.
I spent about 30 minutes getting my telescope ready and another 15 minutes tracking and focusing only to have my batteries die. I was so disgusted and cold I packed it up and went in to bed.
Started out great for me in NC. Not to cold, no clouds, everyone already asleep so I set out my Canon Digital SLR, tripod and 75-300mm lens and went to work. First few shots were from 2 nights ago as test shots, then starts the eclipse shots. Got a few great shots and then as the real show began the wind picked up, temperature dropped and the clouds began to show up. ENJOY!
