Been fishing port hardy for 10 years 100lbs pretty common and up to 235lbs. I think its the best kept secret on the west coast. 40 salmon a day springs silvers pinks sockeye, all in the same day plus a 25lb ling when one wants one. Than you can allways pick up a yellow eye with the butts.

Yes I cross at port angeles washington (ferry)and than its about 7Hr drive north. Quarterdeck marina has fuel and slips, but i see a lot of guys put in and out on a daily basis. Best time seems to be the last two weeks in july and first week in aug. Only other consideration would be tides for the butts. If you go let me know and I will give you the spots i fish or just call me on my cell 2088801450 Iam sure I will be on the water.

They have some conservation areas, i just trace them onto my charts, they will board you and check fish, hooks, etc.you need to bend the barbs down on the salmon rigs. People at the dock checking, the Quarterdeck is allways helpfull one of the owners retired this year i hope they still help as they have in the past. Anyone will help you on the docks if you ask, but screw up and canada can take your boat. I still will miss calling some of the salmon and mix up a sockeye silver chum or pink, it doesnt seem like you should after 10 years but you can. Small aggreate limits last year 3 halibut (follow the packaging regs) 8 salmon 2 lings , somthing like that. Any thing else let me know

Most of Alaska is a bit easier to figure out, but things are tightening up, even here. At least if you screw up here, they'll ticket your guide rather than take the whole boat!

I've actually hit a 40# halibut in the head with my dive knife... that was one hell of a ride he took me for. Glad the knife didn't have a barb on it! ;-)
