Default Greetings from Eastern Pennsylvania!

I am a new, if not the newest member of this forum and look forward to hearing from, or about anyone who fishes out of Hatteras, NC...either offshore or surf fishing.

I just bought my first pickup and have purchased the rod and cooler rack. I'm fixin' to have the hitch receiver installed soon, so as you can imagine, I am raring to go.

One question I do have to throw out there right now....

I have been accustomed to the easy beach access on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands in recent years and have only surf fished while summer vacationing in NC. Now that I have the full rig, I'd like to do more day trips to NJ, Delaware, Maryland, etc...even NY or Connecticut. Tell me about some places I should scout out. I appreciate the suggestions!

I have enjoyed what I have read on the forum so far. Keep it coming guys and gals!

Keep 'em tight!

Hotrod,

Happy to have you around!

I can help out with the Outer Banks fishing, but I'm not really sure what to say about NJ, DE & MD.

I'm sure someone around here knows the answer to that!

I think you will enjoy TBR! And if you knwo anyone else who might enjoy this site, pass the word!

Matt

Thanks, Matt...appreciate the "welcome aboard"! Do you fish from the beach or boat..or both?

Welcome aboard Hotrod!

I can tell you of a few places down here on the Texas coast.

Be patient, as I know several of our northeast coast members can help you out.

Wayne

Hotrod,

I do both, I probably fish more of a boat but I do enjoy surf fishing also! You will have to let us OBX guys know the next time you are down so we can all go wet a line!!

Matt,
Alas, I have no boat...BUT...I have no aversion to helping a fishing buddy pay for the fuel!!!

I'll be in Hatteras for a week starting on July 26. Typically, I charter a boat during the "family vacation" but this will be the first year in many that I don't. The kids have grown up and moved on, and I just could not justify the cost to fish by myself. Make-ups really did not interest me. You never know who you'll be stuck with.

Instead...this year I will be visiting Hatteras again in September to fish offshore twice with 5 guys that I know. I have a boat booked for two trips, and will be there for five days. We have a built in "weather/do what you want" day. You know how the gals sometimes have their "girls only" shopping deal? Well...I'll be making up for some of that with trips like this one...got me?!

In any case, as long as a guy is safe on the water and has a good sense of humor, I'm happy to fish with him... Maybe we can wet a line or two...

Default greetings Hotrod

Welcome to TBR from W. Pa. Someone finally asked a question I feel qualified to answer! In New Jersey go to Island Beach State Park (near Toms River). You'll have to buy a permit here but it is well worth it. There is a 1/3 mile long Army Corp. jetty to fish from lining Oregon inlet (ware spikes). Last I knew most state Striper records were taken here. Good surf fishing also. Great tog and weak-fishing. This is where I learned to saltwater fish. Next try Assateague Island near Ocean City, MD. 19 miles of uncluttered surf fishing and some small jettys. Great scenery and the wild ponies everywhere. You will also have to buy a permit. Good luck and tight lines.

Answer to Wayne's question first...The own in Texas is called Alvarado (Am I spelling that correctly?)

Senergy...That's great information. Stuff I can definitely use. I have a friend with a house in Chincoteague, so the Assateague deal is a possibility. I have another buddy who is real familiar with LBI (vacations there every year). Maybe I'll have to turn him on to surf fishing.

I'll start looking into scouting those spots out.

What a great forum this is!
