Hi Folks, the shop says the brakes are fix and working perfectly -- no need to replace the actuator. I'm going to test pull the trailer today or tomorrow and will post my findings.

(Thought I posted a reply last night but it did not show up today ??? -- so, sorry if this is a repeat. )

Well I went and test pulled my boat this afternoon -- its brakes perfectly. They replaces all 4 hub assemblies with TieDown model G4 Stainless Steel Brakes. The actuator is doing its job and the back up solinoid is also working (we backed her up a steep hill and the brakes did not engage). I plan to carry 2 garden sprayers - one with salt-away, the other with plain water, wash down brakes is mandatory hereafter.

Total cost to replace them $1,200.00. The (young) shop manager could not explain why the old brakes did not work, but this trailer will be back at the shop at the first sign of braking trouble!

Great news Frank. Glad everything is working now.

Not to be a downer, but I really would have liked to know why the brakes didn't work. It's just my nature as I work in failure analysis for a semiconductor company and I like to know the root cause of failures.

Again, glad things are back to normal.

Daddy'O

Here is my guess...

When I first bought the trailer and hired a tow company to go to Fla to get my boat -- the brakes would not disengage after stopping. The trailer weight was not enough weight to disengage the actuator. They put a screw in the side of the actuator to lock into position and once the boat was loaded the screw was removed and the actuator worked.

However, the trailer was initially pulled 30 miles and returned to the dealer (total of 60 miles) to figure out what to do. I suspect that the rear most pads on the brakes were distroyed during this 60 miles. The trailer did have some braking power but not much. The front brakes did not show as much corrosion as the rear brakes -- only my guess.

I plan to pull the tires and check the brakes several times this comming year to make sure they are working.

Frank , you will know they are working cuz after a short pull the disk will be shinny and the loaded trailer will also stop VERY good when working.

I hope you have better results with Road King warranty than I had. I had locking up issues and they fixed it doing the minimum. I have a 2006 with Tie Downs that work about half way and rotors that are rusty as cr@p because of all the heat build up. Kodiaks are going on the trailer shortly.... Again Good Luck
