Default GM Vortec Max trucks

Anyone know anything about these trucks. As much as I'd like to have a Duramax/Allison... I can't afford to pay $53,000 for a truck right now. I can get my hands on a 6.0 L Z71 crew cab for about $38,000. So thats sitting alot better with the wallet right now.

Anyone know someone who is towing with a 6.0L???

I tow with a 6.0, albeit in a silverado ss. It's the 345 hp version in a 2003. I have the 410 gears, tranny cooler, and it tows great. These are thirsty motors though. I average 14 mpg around town and 11 mpg towing a 6000 load. Love the motor, just wish it was a little less thirsty

Buddy of mine has the original 300hp version. He an allison/D-max combo for his other truck (runs his own buisness). He says as far as running around and get up and go the gasser is the way to go, but over 8K the D-max is better. If you aren't towing day in and day out, Vortec Max will be fine.

I have the 6.0 liter in the 300HP version, 4.10 rear. It is in a 2006 Silverado ext. cab. It tows Capt. Fred's 8000# or so rig just fine. Gas mileage is 13-14 using it for work, 15-16 on the interstate not towing, 8.5 towing Fred's boat 55 mph or so, and close to 10mpg if you can get it up to 65 and therefore into overdrive in tow/haul mode. Unless you tow over 10k# and/or tow a whole lot, it is hard to justify the $5500 extra for the Duramax. My truck has the electronic 4 speed tranny, I understand the new ones have the 6 speed Allison, that should make it even better, probably would be fine to have the 3.73 rear with that transmission, and maybe the empty gas mileage would improve a bit.
