I test drove the 08 Dodge 2500 quad cab today (6.7 i think) Got 18.3 cruising on the highway. Turbo sounds sweet kicking in and out. I will go to GMC and Ford tonight!!

I agree with what these fine gentlemen said here, best option would be the Cummins 5.9 if you can find one in the configuration you want, the older Ford with a 7.3 in it is an excellent option also if you're not set on a new truck. Add another 12 yrs to the Blue oval total in the previous posts, bought an 07 Dodge quadcab long box 4x4 with the 5.9, and man can this thing pull.

What maintenance is required with a deisel? Similar to a gas engine? I know ther are no plugs and wires but arent there more filters?

Check my post on the other site. The only big difference is the water seperator, drain that on a regular basis wether the "idiot" light comes on or not. They still have one oil filter albeit much bigger than a gasser, air filter, the usual stuff to maintain, another difference is the addition of another battery (2 total), increases cost when replacing.

Just saw it on the other site now...Thanks. I have one more question...for today that is lol
When i was test driving the cummins today on the dash under the radio there was a button that lit up when depressed and it said "light load" also on the gas guage it had something written about using a special clean type of diesel fuel (cant remember the exact wording). The idiot salesman didnt have a clue!!

The light load thing is probably a new gadget for the 6.7 as my truck doesn't have it and I've never heard of it. As for the fuel type, 2 or so years ago we used to burn LSD (low sulfur diesel) with all the emissions controls mandated on the new trucks only ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel) can be used, if you buy a 6.7 Cummins use ULSD only, the 5.9 will burn either one.

Is ULSD available at any gas station that sells diesel?

Wayne and Lester combined have over 60 years as Ford (Blue Oval) owners, and then switched to the Cummins. I have 12 more years to add to that total before I switched also. Sorry for the confusion.

In theory it should be the only thing they sell, thats what is mandated by the government for emission control. It will be marked on the pump ULSD.

Just a thought, the light load thing, might be a new version of the tow/haul button, not really sure.
