you guys wanna see some project pics ???
i have a shop in cape may nj,i specialize in major fiberglass repair and custom construction...
here's a few...
this is a 1973 23 mako,i rebuilt the boat for a customer...it got a new deck,a transom,i made a pulpit for it and i rebuilt the console...then the boat was painted "fighting lady yellow"... the boat was alos completley rewired, and a seperated and dedicated battery system was installed...the fuel system was also repalced, when the deck was replaced...here's the after....
Man, nice work. That transom looks familiar! I rebuilt an old chris craft a few years ago and the transom was black all the way through.
believe it or not, that ransom was original...hard to believe huh ??? the cause for it's demise came from someone adding a bilge pump to the boat, the person drilled a hole through the transom,to allow a hose to be put through it,the hole was never sealed, the hose ran through the hole, and it was coated in silicone...nice huh ??
Hey, bring on the project pictures! But I don't understand - that transom was just fine. A little penetrating epoxy could have dried it right out and made it like new...... Right!
Sometimes the saw is the only way to fix it.
Of all the terminal problems in boats, wet transoms and delaminated stringers continue to be the biggies. Blisters get a lot of attention, but so many owners just don't pay enough attention to proper bedding or sealing. Once the wood gets soaked, the saw is about the only fix.
