Some fine work there.

When you 'get her done', I would love to know how many man hours you have in it, as well as a round dollar guestimate of how much $ you have in it, if you are willing to share that with us.

Thanks.

I can make a guestimate of that. I'd say about 150 hours of my own work in it. Then the painter and his crew will easily have about 200 hours in it.

Purchased the boat for $20K
Purchased motors for $20K
New Owens Trailer for $5K
-$5k for selling the old motors and trailer
T-top for $5K
Paint job for $20K
New hardware, rigging, electronics, etc. for about $15K
Misc. materials (fiberglass, resin, core, shop supplies) $5K

So $85K is probably a good round number for this escapade.

Update... I got outside and rambo'd on the rear seat for the leaning post today. I sprayed a fairly heavy 25-30 mils of gelcoat, a good bit will be sanded off in final fairing for primer. Then I laid 2 plys of 1.5oz mat and then 4 layers of 1808. It should be pretty stout. I used about 1.25 gal of vinylester resin. I plan to break the part free from the mold tomorrow morning.

I also laid a layer of 1808 tabbing around the lid that I glued onto the livewell. I used peel ply to help keep bubbles from forming at the corner.

So Ringleader, what would a comparable size Mako or other comparable boat have cost you out the door new versus the total cost of the project Mako?
I know this one is customized just the way you want though.

You can pick up a Mako 284 for about $95K before extras (electronics and special rigging) and taxes... actually alot of bank for your buck on the Mako. A Regulator 26 is a very similiar hull and runs about $150K before extras and taxes.

This route allows me to have the boat I want with no bank note. I believe I'll be happy with her. Very happy.

I didn't get alot done today. I pulled the rear seat from the mold and trimmed the rough edges. After a quick dry fit to the leaning post I took it back outside and did some grinding on it so I can fiberglass them together this coming weekend. I think it all came out very well.

RingLeader That is going to be one bad a$$ boat with you finally finish it. Love the color of the hull. You are a very talented individual.

I got the leaning post all glassed together today. I put 2 layers of 1808 on the inside and 1 layer of 1808 and 2 layers of 1.5 oz mat on the outside. I made up a small batch of epoxy filler and wiped the outside while the resin was still green. That filled a few low spots and will save a little grinding/sanding in the long run.

I really like the height of the rear seat. I find it pretty comfortable, so I didn't loose anything in the process of adding this livewell to the leaning post.

Tomorrow I'll cut a hole in the top of the livewell and place the tank into the leaning post. After putting some tabbing on the livewell to hold it in the leaning post, I'll pour some 4 lb foam in to really hold the livewell in place and add a little insulation. I need to get rid of this foam anyway. Stay tuned. This leaning post project should wrap up tomorrow. Finally!
