I am making a mold for a 50 gallon livewell that will be glassed into the fiberglass leaning post. I got it wrapped with the masonite and capped with a piece of MDF. I ran a flush trim bit around that cap and then a roundover. I wiped all the nail holes and the seams with bondo. A few hours of setting and it should be ready for a sanding. Then another wipe of bondo and sanding should do the trick. After that I am going to spray 3 heavy coats of duratec poly primer and wet sand her to a good 600 or 800 grit shine before waxing and lay-up. Then I can get it glassed into the leaning post and over to Stan for them to make it pretty. In the process of adding this thing to the leaning post I'll have to raise the back seat 5 inches.
This is a test panel of non-skid that I sprayed a few weeks ago. Its Imron with Awlgrip particles mixed into the paint. The particles are 50/50 fine & course. It was sprayed with a harbor freight gravity feed gun and I'm really happy with the way it came out. I amy consider a little bit of a flattening agent in the paint/skid when its time to do the boat in a few weeks.
It will be Wednesday this week before I can get over to the boat so hopefully there will be something interesting to see by that time. They were planning to work on wet sanding and polishing the inner liner before moving on to the hull sides. That way he can mask off the liner of the boat until the hull sides and the bottom are complete. So I think by the 1st week of December we could be looking at the hull sides getting some paint.
Hehe... Just need some duck tape now! I think you will be impressed once its all cover in Duratec surface primer. And I guess even more so when the sky blue livewell pops off in a few weeks.
Last Saturday... I finished sanding the bondo and then shot 3 heavy coats of Duratec Surface primer (1 quart total). It was ready to sand that afternoon. These pixs are after sanding with 220 grit. I had a few spots that I went back and spotted in with primer (pinholes). Friday night I'll wet sand with 300, 400, and 600 then wax for the lay-up Saturday.
Exactly 1 week before my 31st birthday... Stan came through for me in a big way. I don't know specifics... amount of paint used or number of coats, but it looks good in pixs! Again, a big thanks to Mr. George for sending these out to me late tonight.
This is Imron, Medium Concorde Blue Effect. Its a metallic. And as you can see, it changes its color depending on the light you see it in. I can't wait to get out there on Friday and see it with the tape off. The blue stops 4" from the chine and Imron 508 white picks up. The paint will set over the weekend and a double metallic gold boot stripe will go on and then the metallic paints will be clear coated.
After that she's coming off the trailer for the bottom work/paint (Imron 508 white).
