If the boat looks that good, I can hardly wait to see how that red and primer Mopar that is sitting in the garage will look......

I haven't updated here in a while... Here's a few weekends of updates.

Over the week I fooled with the rub rail a little. Dan and I got the bow section of stainless on last night. Sure looks pretty. I am going to try to put the other 2 sections on this weekend. They are calling for rain. Go figure. I would like to say I'll be pulling cables and harnesses for the motors, but who knows anymore.

Here's some other stuff I was working on last weekend.

I installed some drains into the fiberglass instrument pod I made. I faired them out inside the pod and re-primed and painted with Imron. I have a few sags to wetsand, but its going on the boat this weekend for sure.

The little wood thing is a pad to mount the throttle control and trim switches on. Its just clear primer right there. I'll scuff it and spray clear Imron tomorrow. It should be ready to go on the boat by Sunday.

Here's a pix of some misc. fiberglass plates I made... Solid fiberglass plates as thick as 3/4". All are different backing plates for things like the water pick-up, thruhull transducer, bow cleat, fuel filter mounts, and etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I brought the boat out to James Caldwell today. He put some rear supports on the T-top and another row of rod holders. I think it looks great but still a little plain. In the coming months I'll be able to see what we can do to spruce it up and still keep the functionality of the leaning post rod holders and rear support legs. But either way, I'm happy with it and it makes a big difference in the dynamics of the T-top. As usual, nice work by James.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday, Dan and I put the stainless on the Starboard side. It did indeed come out nice. Later in the evening I pulledout the table saw and ripped a bunch of walnut for the trimwork. I'll get to all that in the coming weeks. I also cut up and bunch of fiberglass backing plates and blocks I had laminated last weekend. You will see them and their purposes as they are all installed in the coming weeks.

Today I did some rigging. I started with the steering rams and tie-bar assembly. I got that all buttoned up. I installed the helm and steering wheel also. Then I put in the instrument pod and panel as well as the throttle/shift.

I pulled the motor harnesses, shift cables, and smart craft harnesses. Then I installed the key switches and kill lanyard. I ran all those to the motors as well.

So the plan is to tackle making and running the battery cables, hooking up the batterys, battery switch, and the final hook-up on the shift/throttle and etc. Then I need to finish out hooking up the steering by putting in the thru-transom steering hose fittings.

If I can get all that done, the next task will be to install and wire the bilge pumps. Then the trim tab pump and hoses, transducer, and thru hull water pick-up.

Getting closer. I could literally be going for a boat ride after 2 solid weekends... but we'll see what the stork brings in the next couple of days. I did run the motors for a few minutes today. They fired right up and ran very smoothly. It was a neat feeling to turn the keys from the console.

I hate clicking on this thread because I keep drooling all over my keyboard everytime I look at it. That is one beautiful rig! You have done an excellent job.

Here's a few pics of the rigging over the last couple of weekends. Its been slow, but if things go well this weekend I may make a big milestone.

Here's the transducer install. Its a 3-3/4" hole. The backing block is 3/4" solid fiberglass bedded in thickened epoxy. The transducer was installed with 5200. Its a pretty easy install. As usual Dan took one for the team as he is still finding 5200 in his hair.

Batteries and cables custom set up my Warthog. Thanks for the help.[]

I have not even made an attempt to make any of the wires or cables anchored, organized, or pretty... I just want to get it functional for now. I am beginning to peck away at the electronics wiring as well.

The bilge is coming together. Still unorganized, but coming together. I have to hook up fuel hoses tonight and I can take her to the gas pump for some liquid gold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Father's day present was a pass to get the boat working. I put in a pretty long day on Saturday, working until about 3am Sunday. I slept for 4 hours and got outside to go at it again. Artie showed up and we busted our butts to get it all done. Rained on us off and on a bit. Jason came over mid afternoon. Right when we were getting ready to go, Artie said to me that I had said something about putting some screws in the trim tabs... I just couldn't for the life of me remember what I had told him and I didn't put it on my list. Well We hooked up and went to the fuel pump and put in 115 gals (holds 200). We came back to the house and test fired the motors, made some shift adjustments and let the oil lines purge. Then we went to the launch.

They backed me in a bit too far and I floated off. I got the boat steadied and said to myself "Bobby specifically told me to check the bilge for leaks while still on the trailer." I pulled the hatch. Thru hulls and transducer were great. But there was a stream of water coming in at the bottom of the transom! Holy crap! What the heck was that? So I jam the boat back on the trailer and we pull out. Its still leakinging through there even after the boat is out the water. After a minute it quit. We looked at the transom and sure enough I forgot to put screws in the 12 holes that hold the covers on the recessed tabs. There is a big void in that area and it obvoiusly filled and had a pin hole communication through the transom. Thin glass in that area.

We went back to the house, 12 mile tow. And put screws and 4200 on the holes. Then back to the launch and all was well. We ran the boat with the bilge acess open so we could watch for leaks. All OK now. Boat ran nearly 1:1 rpms to mph. I hammered it for 30 seconds or so. And got her up to 52 mph at 5300 rpms but didn't fool with trim much. 4000 rpms is a happy place. 39 mph and 10 gph per motor. This was with my 4 blade 19's (Rev 4 props). Tons of power. The trim tab pump isn't seeming to pick up a prime. No sure there. Just a minor issue.

The boat ran great. I was really too nervous to enjoy it. As with anything that sink out from under you, I think it will take some time to build confidence. Even if the boat was brand new off the factory floor I'd still worry that something may have been missed or over looked. There are some gremlins to work out and lots still to do to make the boat 100%. But the shake down was successful. We will get more pics next time. I had alot on my mind.

Here's a short video from inside the boat of the first time we planed her off.
