Where'd ya go? Had gotten a few trips in with mixed but mostly good results. Thursday before Memorial Day, we trolled up 2 stripers, one was 27lbs the other was 35lbs, didn't see any strong bunker pods yet. Went out on Saturday, Memorial Day weekend and got nothing on the troll, and didn't hear of anything on the bunker either. Monday, Memorial Day weekend was a different story. Snag and drop with live bunker, we pulled in 11 bass all within 2 1/2 hrs. Smallest was 28lbs, rest were around 30lb, except one wich was 37lbs. Also got a trip in yesterday. Had a bunch of run offs with live bunker but only boated 3, lost a BIG fish yesterday, judging by the size of the tail that came out of the water it was around 40 lbs+. Lost it under another boat that drifted up to us, that fish pulled off alotta line, maybe next time.
We've been heading out Barnegat inlet and the bunker are in strong now, south or north out of the inlet, doesn't matter.

I was in the NY Harbor. I didnt see any bunker and no chatter on the radio as any stripers being caught. Most i heard were switching over to fluke. Water still too cold for that in my opinion. I wish i could get out off shore a lil farther but in my boat i need the protection of the harbor or calm day. I stuck my nose out around coney island i was either going to hit jamaica bay or head west to Great Kills but it got too rough when i hit the big water.

Although the south winds are normal in the afternoon, they have been a bit stronger than normal lately. It's been getting somewhat snotty for the ride back inside, but with the fishing being the way it is right now, it's worth the time. Water is still a bit too cold for fluking, actually with the south east wind from saturday it's borderline too cold for the bass. Temps when I went out on sunday were only 50-51 and that was in tight to the beach in 9' of water. On Monday when it was really good the temps were around 55, seems thats the magic #.
Good luck on your next trip.

Managed to get out on Black Friday and also on Saturday, wow, what a great time. Seems the water temps cooled just enough to make the bluefish finally scatter like roaches in the kitchen when the lights go on....
Friday, broke Barnegat inlet at around 7:30, got a later start because one of my crew overslept. Watched the screen for pockets of bait and started jigging, boated 66 bass on Friday, mostly schoolies, but a dozen or so looked of legal size.
Saturday, headed out Barnegat inlet and figured on starting at the same spot as the day before. It worked, had almost identical results. Early morning we boated about 50 bass, seemed like when the sun krept up further in the sky the bite turned off (Friday was overcast and we had action all day) since jigging wasn't working, we moved off into deeper water to set up a troll, had some action with a few double headers on shad umbrella rigs. As the sun started to kreep back down toward later afternoon, we tried jigging again closer to the beach, grand total for Saturday was 64 bass....
Taking tomorrow off from work, grabbing my father and heading out again.

Great report.......Im having trouble getting out. When the weather is good i have to work or am busy. When i am free the weather sucks and the wind is howling. My boat is not made for the rough stuff so i have to pick my days. Good luck tomorrow!

Wed Dec 3rd, Barnegat Inlet
Probably due to the NE winds from Sunday and Monday, but it seemed like the bait was scattered about and not concentrated like the past few days. Fish are still there, but scattered as well. 18 bass today 2 legal size at 29" (released), all jigging. 47* water temp and just like on Saturday, when the sun climbs farther into the sky the fish shut down, most action at that point comes from deeper water, 50' plus. Better than a day at work, fo sho....
fishbard, think you could send some of those bigger striped fishes back up this way, it's getting later into our season and although there are still some larger fish to be had, most are schoolies as the bigger fish tend to move south first while the smaller ones hang around for a bit.
Glad to see you released them, we had 29 bass this past spring all over 35 lbs and a few over 40, all but one still swimming. I see guys at the local shops here weighing in 2 bass per man with 4 guys on the boat everyday, this keeps up in a few years there won't be as many big bass around, again.... Some people just don't seem to realize that these big cows are the breeders and lay alotta eggs. Sorry for the rant.
