Default Ducks...opening day

After seeing close to 100 birds land in the swamp by my tower stand on monday, I was convinced I'd see a limit this morning. Went back there today with a couple buddies at around 5:30 and jumped up close to the same amount of birds. Since most were woodies, they didn't return and my buddy shot one, I didn't pull the trigger. Put a downer on the day so far but headin off to watch state hand it to unc...GO PACK. Anyone else with reports?

Here's my opening day. A buddy and me set out in the dark a section of the river that is a hotspot for opening day. So much of a hotspot that people camp out at there spots to make sure they have a good area. We are on the river and find a little patch of reids that the boat will fit behind nicely and hide. Put some netting out to cover the motor and few other items in the boat but no real elaborate blind. Notice no decoys were put out. My buddy forgot to get them out of our other boat. 2 woodies fly by at good range just before legal shooting. Finally, legal shooting time and a single woodie flies by and gets knocked down. 3 more woodies come by and 1 of them finds his way to the boat. A little while later a single flies over and he also gets a boat ride. Left the duck hunt at 7:30 with 3 woodies 2 hens and 1 drake, saw a few birds but they were to high and to far away to shoot. We only missed 2 so thats not to bad. Left the duck hunt to go deer hunting. We are in a deer club that hunts islands on the rivers. Around 11:30 we saw a doe doe swimming and I tell my buddy to get his gun ready because he had never killed a deer before and today was going to be his day. We run over to wear she is at as she hits the bank and is almost in the woods out of site and one shot drops her. We get her in the boat and she is a big doe around 140. So for the first day of duck season not bad 3 woodies and deer all by 12. Sorry no pics but I didn't have my camera.

Me and two buddies decided to try an afternoon hunt yesterday in this same hole, betting that we could catch our limit before legal time stopped. After waiting for about and hour without seeing any ducks, more woodies began pouring in this hole than we knew what to do with. We each shot our limit and got out of there, wish I could have taken video of 300 ducks sloshing around in one tiny swamp!
