Default coon hunting

anyone one here hunt with dogs for coons?

i use to back 10 yrs ago or longer..had at 1 time 16 dogs. tried to keep it to a limit of 2 old "trained" dogs and 3 or 4 puupies to train...
im looking at getting back in the game but cant decide what breed to go back with!
i had treeing walkers, black and tans and english redticks(all UKC)
i liked the speed of the walkers for competition hunts but damn they would go for miles to find a coon
i like the slow paced blk/tan because they would find a cold trail "layed up" coon and wouldnt go too far,but often times you couldnt find the coon thus not getting points for the treed coon.....

and the redticks were 50/50 on finding coons....so i guess with me having a limited schedule now i want to find something that will go rather close and if no coons are to be found come on back to me rather than me having to walk 2 miles to a treed hound!

so i may just find a OLD OLD OLD walker that "cant" run for hours and try that .....

BTW the breeds consisted of "stylish banjo" "lipper" "strong river bart" and for blk/tan was "set em up ace" and "double deuce shady" out of those 5 i produced 6 champion/gr night champions, 4 nite champs, 4 show champs and 4 dogs that i trained and sold to become gr/nite champs/......GOD I MISS IT!

OK enuff rambling i probally typed this for nothing but took a chance on some of you guys maybe being into it!

Man that was my passion about 10 years ago. We spent a lot of time coon hunting from middle school until I was in my late 20's....just got too hard to hunt at night and work too!! I still love to hear a good strike and rollover to a tree. Coon dogs are some sweet, wonderful pets, too. I was kinda old school...we hunted mainly black and tans...mountain curs and a few red ticks. Seemed like the whole world was going walker hounds when I quit hunting. My favorite dogs were my black and tans from a local grand nite...General Jackson. We ended up hating going to organized hunts and just fun hunted the last 5 or 6 years.
