That should be some good meat , if your shots are that close ya might want to drop down in Cal. to like a .243 or there about.

.243 is my .308's little brother.

My friend shoots a .243 and it was just me and him on the property. He took a 120+yd shot with his and I (with my .308) took a 40 yarder.
I got lucky on this shot. She kept to the top of the ridge across the field from my stand (~100yds across a field from my stand, the 50yds up in the woods) and would come down to the edge of the woods/field to check things out,but stayed in there too far for a "good" shot. Finally I just gave up on her and went back to my bleat can/rattling antlers/waiting ever-so-quietly (hoping for her male counterpart). Next thing I know she just sprints down into the field and before I could even get the rifle shouldered her and another smallish doe were just standing practically under my stand.
I waited around for like 5 minutes hoping for big daddy to come calling, but he didn't and it was getting dark, so I waited for my next broadside shot and bang.
We got more meat off of her than last week's doe + small (semi-road kill) buck combined. That also meant I spent more time cutting meat in the sub-zero windchills last night and more time wrapping and freezing said meat, but a little work now will equal venison in June.

She was overweight, on gov't support (subsidized crops...get it...) and I need to eat. Her kids are better off without her.
Day after Thanksgiving I might take my dad hunting for the first time in his life.
