Default My opening day of rifle season.

Hunted with 1 friend on some family land. Had 130 acres to play with and managed to only see 2 deer out of a gazillion scrapes, rubs, tracks, trails, etc. My friend shot a doe (in the GUT) and that was it.

On the way home after butchering that disgusting smelling doe, we saw a wounded buck on the side of the road. Called the sheriff and they granted us permission to dispatch of it. One .243 round and one .45ACP round later and we now had two deer...processed it in the backyard at 1am. Backstrap went on the grill at 2am and in my belly soon thereafter. I rent a house in a new cookie-cutter development on 1/3 acre lots that all back up to one another...I'm going out on a limb and saying that tonight marked the first night a deer was gutted and skinned in our community. Neighbors already hate us because we're 22-24yr old college students instead of 22-24yr old "professionals" so I can't imagine what glory tonight's slaughterhouse brought to our image I fully expect a letter from the HOA in the coming days.

Keep up the fight.....reminds me of living in married student housing and hanging deer to clean on the clothes line poles! In liberal arm pit Chapel Hill NC no less! Sounds like an adventuresome day at the least.

Think I'm headed back to hunt it again Friday and maybe Saturday (maybe headed home instead). We see signs of bucks all over the place, but those suckers aren't showing themselves (yet?) so doe's it is. The county we're in has an "earn a buck" program anyway, so shooting doe's not only gets us meat, but it gets us buck tags we can use.
