Default Opening turkey day

Had a good start to the turkey season this morining. Beats the heck out of wishing I could go fishing. It's good the wind has been blowing 'cause I'd be turkey hunting anyway!

Last Monday I had walked out the back door at daylight. No wind, cool weather. Before I knew it,I had herd a bird behine the house. So,I walk back inside and grab a call and made my way out back. With in 15 mins,I had a real nice tom with in 10 feet of me.Best part of this was what I was wearing.Blue jeans, blue jacket and white boots. So much for camo.Oh,I didn't take a gun.We don't have many birds around and I had only took one in the pass and will not take another other then from Winn Dixie.I do go out and call them in for the hell of it.The season close this coming weekend here and sofar I had called in three this year in two hunts.

Still,nice bird Greg.

Thanks....where are you from? We just got a season opened in my county of NC about 10 years ago. I used to have to drive to hunt them to other counties towards the mountains. We have really picked up the bird numbers in the last 5 years.

Greg,I'm down in Louisiana. The season opens in March till April. Were I hunt,I hunt on my own land.I had been seeing birds for aroung 20 years, but far inbetween till about 5 years ago.We have a mix of birds. We even got some that are more white then brown.I was told that years ago that someones pen raised birds got out and they mixed with the wild ones.Don't know if the is true or not,but last year I had call one in for my son-n-law.He took it.It had a 10 1/2" beard,1 1/8" and weight just under 20 lbs.If I can find some pictures of it,I will post it.

Now something to laugh about. For years I had always watched these TV shows about big bird hunting.Always after the hunt and when the bird is baged, they always show people throwing them over there shoulder and walking away.Well,After my first bird,I did the same thing making my way back to my 4 wheeler.WRONG,bad move. Before I made 50 feet,my @ss and my boot had filled up with blood.Sh-t you not!I got to thinking that there is NO WAY these clowns doing the shows are taking fresh killed birds and walking away with them over there shoulder right after a kill.To this day I still laugh at myself and every time I see that on TV.
