They're catching them WHEN they can get out. If this wind keeps howling I'm afraid it will put a licking on some of the charter guys over there. I'm probably going to make another trip or two down there before the Lump tirns on but will probably be targeting grouper and tilefish with Redweiser.
Boomer, you getting into that deep dropping stuff too?
Blue, I think they're always catching YFT in Venice. This time of year is just when the bigger ones are closer in. Tunatic on this forum is a good source.

Yeah, Red thinks we can catch some swords during the day too. He's got everything rigged and I just need to replace a couple of rodholders on the front of my boat. I'm going to put in some more Smiths and get rid of the cheap ones up front so we can chase one down if we have to and fight the fish out of the holder.
Leave it to you old guys to need a rod holder to fight a fish! Seriously though, Capt Eddie has tried doing some day time swording and it sounds like a lot of work. I want to say people use either paper clips or rubber bands to break away the weights used to get deep. I wonder if a life saver attached to the swivel would work for that. I read that somewhere and it makes sense as the Life Saver would disolve rather quickly.

Sportfising mag had a bag of rocks tied on with 8 lb. mono.
You just need a couple of lbs heavier mono than your weight. Jerk it hard and it breaks if you're using spectra ... if you're using mono (rubber band) you may never break it.
