3 men towed their 25 Triton cuddy with twin mercs all the way from Colorado to Venice and made an attempt to fish. The first few days were eventfull to say the least. A crew boat had to pull them off a mud flat as well as a few more issues. They contacted me and I said I would guide them on their boat. The first day we could not make it offshore so I hit a few close by rigs within ptotection of land. This is what we caught. My report is in another section of this site.
The second day was too windy and on the third day they were expecting another rig fishing bottom dunking trip. I showed up and told them not to buy any shrimp we were going after tuna. We left in dense fog and the trip down the river was a slow cautious one. All electronics were working well and it was uneventfull. unce in the clear the captain breathed a sigh of relief.
We made it out there at a slow pace, 14 mph, due to the boat and the crew. I at 67 was the youngest on the boat by 5 years and each of them had their own body problems. Once at the targeted area it was first bait in and fish on. This nice 78 pounder was the first one in and it almost stuffed the fishbox. We knew if we got another tuna that would be the end of the trip due to lack of fish box space.
Note the knee brace on the guys left knee. On our fourth set we hooked up again and landed a 35 pounder. Before I had a chance to get things set up the captain was heading in a home bound direction. I will be fishing on that boat again. They had a great time and learned a lot while I was with them.
