We've been to Galveston Island on several occasions. The seawall is 17 feet tall. I just can't imagine adding 10 feet of water over the top. I hope they're wrong Red.

Les, we talked to Capt Mac on Wednesday & gave him & Nancy an invite to our neck of the woods. He told Dee the fish camp in POC is all boarded up & that they were going to ride it out in Houston.

I read in the Victoria Advocate where Calhoun county issued a mandatory evacuation. They expect POC to become an island.

Hope everyone will be OK.

They have it going in as a Cat 1 now .... that will help .... even with the 1.6 high tide 4:am Sat.

A constant surge has been stacking up in La for 2 days .... not good for what recovery that has been done from Gus.

A bad ~ "MF'er" ~ & ~ "A Mean Motor Scooter" ~.

Default 'Precipitation'

Looks like south LA will receive more precipitation this week but at least Galveston might get a break after Saturday's soaking. Maybe we can start making some fishing plans now.

Daddy'O, have you heard anything from your friends in Galveston? From what I can gather things are looking a little bleak.
Boomer and I were trying to fish Venice this weekend but we had to cancel ... we'll give it a try next weekend.

Red,

Our friends are in south Houston & are OK with the exception of no power & downed tree limbs. Our fish camp in POC is in good shape.

Prayers sent to all who have it so much worse.

Thanks for asking Red. Hope you and Boomer get a chance to go to Venice & do some fishing. BTW – did Venice have much damage from Gustav?

Venice had a few feet of water & a power outage for a week or so ..not a great amount of wind damage from Gustav. Grand Isle & to the west was another story, then Ike followed it up with another surge ... they're still without power.

Hopefully this hurricane season is over with & we can get back to a little fishing.

Fishing's looking up for next weekend ... weather permitting ... dirty river water seems to be moving to the west.

Default ~ Obstructions ~

Up jumped another obstruction.

BAD WEATHER TODAY CAUSES MORE PROBLEMS FOR LOWER PLAQUEMINES

Today’s high tide, winds and rain caused additional flooding south of Ironton today even curtailing some of yesterday’s progress on opening Highway 23. Crews closed the man-made levee breach prior to high tide and there were no problems with those…however the huge 200 plus foot breach caused by Hurricane Ike allowed tidal surge through and water covered parts of Highway 23 this afternoon in areas that had been dried off yesterday. Crews have been working around the clock on that huge breach- but only about half of it had been filled in when today’s weather caused problems. Pumps were then re-positioned and Chinook helicopters began dropping huge sandbags today because the rain made the levees themselves too weak to drive on, and the only way to continue the breach work was by air. While crews have been working to de-water Highway 23, other crews had been working to close the huge breach caused by Hurricane Ike. Again, the man made breaches which were utilized in an effort to pump water off the highway, were closed before today’s high tide and wind change. Sandbagging and pumping efforts will continue throughout the night and tomorrow.

Feel for the people in the Galveston area ... good luck.

Maybe we'll make out a little better in the Northern Gulf next year.

About time to let this thread go and start fishing again.
