Default Offshore report 3/12/08

Seven of us loaded up on the 32’ Regulator for some free diving and fishing. Headed out deep, to 200-300’ of water. Water temp was cold, it was choppy and very muddy. Visibility was about 2-3’ until 40’ down…turned blue at 70’. Probably the hardest diving I have encountered.

Ended the day with two lemonfish, 12 scamps and one blackjack.

The rigs did have large schools of 150# tarpon. If they were not so deep and in the middle of the rig, we might have tried to catch one or possibly shoot & wrestle one. One rig in particular in shallower water had a lost school of YFT hanging in the clear water with the smallest ones going 60#. Another diver had one shot, but the spear tore out. We also hooked one as well and fought it for a while, but the knot eventually broke. Was almost dark by that time with a long ride in.

Better than being at work, but I have had more pleasant experiences on and in the water.
