For numbers of fish in the 30-80#+ range I would say April through October.
For larger fish over 100# I would say November through April.
I took a trip with Capt Eddie Burger Sept of 2007 and we caught around 60 fish, mostly Blackfin and Skipjacks to about 20# on Poppers and heavy spinning gear but we also ended up with several nice Yellowfin between 50-70#.
Took another trip with him in November and fished the "Mullet Run" and caught two Yellowfin(135# and 115#) and a Blue Marlin about 250-300#. We "only" caught the three fish but we got to see several viscious topwater strikes on large live Mullet.
Here's a link to Capt Eddie's website.

Is your wife planning on fishing with you?If not,you could always leave her in New Orleans for some shopping or what every. Now if she is planning on fishing, there is not much to do down in Venice. No,I take that back. The only thing to do down there besides fishing is drinking!Winter months = bigger tuna, summer months = small tuna.

Wow!!! Kind of harsh, huh? Granted there is nothing to do in Venice except for drink and fish and work offshore, but that's a little over the top. It is what it is.

Little Tim- I'm heading to the New Orleans area April 10 and fishing in Venice weather permitting with a buddy. Let me know if you will be in town by chance that day.
If not, I would recommend leaving your wife/significant other in New Orleans and fishing Venice, or heading to Grand Isle for the weekend, OR possibly fishing out of Biloxi with Rimmer Covington(more $ fishing the same waters as Venice and more $ at the casinos in Biloxi).

Thats uncalled for. I would never call someone elses home a shithole in a public forum. Not much respect will be gained from that comment and much could be lost.
