Weather Blues
The weather has been a real problem for the northeast boats out looking for groundfish this past weekend. Strong NE winds and rain greeted those hardy souls that ventured out and coupled with strong New Moon tides that made it nearly impossible to get the baits in front of the fish for more than a few moments.
While lots of short codfish were landed but the coolers were light with fillets from keeper size (24" min) cod. The only bright light on the horizon is that there is a decent haddock bite developing and many of the large party boats are saving their days when they can find a hungry school.
Unfortunately, this coming weekend looks like another blowout with rain and wind predicted. Hopefully, once this storm passes we will get a stretch of nice spring weather and the waters will warm and the cod will move in from offshore.
Tight lines,
