Anybody from the Manatee/Sarasota area here. I recently purchased a home in Palmetto and wil; be moving down ther full time in the near future. Looking for some possible help fo good boating areas. Have been up the Manatee River on SeaDoo's and around the Sarasota Bay and Tampa Bay areas with them also.

Hope to have my boat shipped down next year.

The thing with this area is that you need 2 boats, 1 to fish inshore and the other to fish offshore.
For inshore fishing the area that your moving to is a pretty good area for trout, reds, and snook. Some of the areas I fish is Miguel Bay, Terre Ceia Bay, Manatee reef which is in Tampa Bay, Skyway Bridge, Cocaroach Bay, Fort Desoto Flat, Palma Sol Bay. You have to remember that this is a very populated area so on the weekends your not alone.
For offshore fishing you will need a 30 ft or better size boat (make sure you have all your safety gear including sat phone and raft) because most of your fishing is done between 40 and 100 miles out. It's one hell of a long run just to go and catch grouper and snapper. Due to the limits I always try to take at least 5 guys with me to try to make the trip worth while. The past couple of years we have done real well but last year it got a little tougher due to the fishery assholes opening this area to longliners.
For Pelagics tuna, wahoo, marlin and nice size dolpin (not these little shits that they all brag about here) your looking at running at least 130 miles plus).
Theres an area 130 miles west of Sarasota that goes from 800 ft to 12,000 ft in 12 miles that is a killer area if you know how to fish.
Again, when doing these trips safety is number one. If you need some numbers let me know and I'll get them from the boat.

My bad........your question was about boating areas not fishing areas.......Angler Systems is the man for that answer because that's what he does best.

That's allright Blue. Although I am interested in the fishing spots, I specifically didn't ask about fishing areas as most guys don't want to talk about their spots. So thanks for the information. If you don't mind, when I finally get my boat down there I would like to get some info from you even if it is not too specific.

Capt.

We are on the water at an average of once a week and do a mixture of fishing (inshore and offshore to 50 miles), cruising, beachin, etc. We often head up your way, around 45 minutes via boat, to hit the beach at Egmont Key, fish the southern shore of Tampa Bay or Skyway, or hit one of the restaurants along the northern end of Longboat Key or Anna Maria Island. Contact me at any time through this site or via email and we can talk.
