Default West Coast, FL - Sixty Mile Run for Red Snapper, Grouper and Tuna

I have not posted for a while figured I'd let you know what we have up too. Been doing a lot of inshore fishing but got offshore a couple weeks ago. Posted this on a forum down our way....

With perfect conditions expected my son and I put together a crew and planned a trip to run 60 miles out of Venice. After talking with Kevin @ Feeding Frenzy during the week we decided to make the run together meeting at the Jetties by 6:30. Our plan was to have lines in the water before 8:30, bottom fish for the morning and troll in the early afternoon. Some photos at day break some 20 miles off Venice.

Once we got to our depth we began to bait up. By the time our fish rods were in the water Kevin’s crew had a Red Snapper keeper in the boat. Then they boated another couple keeper fish before we had our first bite. At that point I decided I could not watch any longer so we moved a mile to some other good numbers. Our fun began!

My sons largest Red Snapper to date went just over 13LB’s.

Andrew played first mate all day but did get to drop a couple of lines as well. We had a blast with his new friend.

We made a couple one mile moves during the day and each time dropped a couple trolling rods into the rod holders as you never know what you may find! When this fish hit, I had to grab the rod. With my son at the helm, Andrew on the gaff, we landed this 19 LB Tuna.

Soon after we had reached our boat limit off 8 Red Snapper to 13 LB and 8 Red Grouper to 12 LB, also picking up 2 nice Scamp and a variety of other Snapper species. It was around 1:30 so we decided to troll east for an hour. After about 45 minutes we came across a nice school of fish, it was Chuck’s turn and he picked up a 17 LB fish.

We broke the Jetties at 4:30 in the afternoon and heading to the dock as I knew clean up would take hours.

Really a great day on the water and the 100 gallons of fuel burnt…..priceless when I look at my sons face!

Looks like a great trip!! Nice mess of fish. How deep was it at 60miles? We would be on the other side of the stream down in Hatteras!!! We used to run 60+ out of Southport... Mark

160 - 165 feet.

We reach 100 feet at 30 miles.

Glad the boat gets 1.5 to 1.6 mpg at 40 mph cruise
