Arrow *** Oregon Inlet report July 3rd -4th***

Just a quick report from the weekend. Pretty much strictly bill-fished all weekend out of OI. Fished with Alex on the Tuna Teaser Saturday. Good thing it would have been a little sporty that morning for a smaller boat. We didn't do much on the bill-fish but did manage to put a 50+ Wahoo in the boat. By the end of the day things were starting to shape up in the area.
Sunday got a little bit of a late start. Sunday Josh and I jumped on my boat and headed out with Slight and Light. Made great time making the 42 mile run to where we left off Saturday. We thought it was going to be packed on the water but there weren't many boats out at all. At least where we were. Once again started where we left off put the spread out and after a hour or so had a white come up on the long starboard. He batted the lure around some and ate the bait but never came tight. The white then faded off not to be seen again.
Trolled for the better part of the day heading south into about 4knts of current. We could hear boats inshore bailing their tales off but wanted to stay out of the bailers. We kept the course and stayed true to the plan. We also heard some of the boats out of Hatteras having a good Sailfish bite as well as some Tunas. We worked down to around the 360 line got into the bailer's so changed course and headed back north to where we started the day with the White bite. It was getting later in the day and the conditions were staring to come together nicely. No boats around with a slight SW wind. Skippy's just started to show up from all directions in 200 fathoms. By now it was 4pm. After working the skippy's for a while we had a Blue crash the long starboard the same lure that was hit earlier in the day by the White. He ran a short distance and dropped the bait then doubled back on the center rigger lure. Crashed it and hooked up!! Peeled of some line then started jumping towards the boat on the port side. Eventually threw the hook while jumping at us. Me at the throttles kicking myself for not turning starboard and giving it the gas!! Another hard lesson learned as we were schooled by this fish. Its a hard hit when you fish all day for these fish and loose it to a simple mistake. Lesson learned and that mistake wont happen again. At the end of the day 0 for 1 on the Whites and 0 for 1 on the Blue one!! At 5:30 Packed it up and headed for the hill. Had a great day on the water but still thinking about the Blue one that got away. Maybe next week she wont be so lucky.............

It was also nice chatting with Dave W. On the water Sunday. You sure sounded glad to be back on the water!!

Here is a photo of the Wahoo caught on Alex's boat Saturday. Thanks for the ride Alex Had a great time On "Da Boat".....

I went out of Oregon Inlet Sunday on a friends boat, "Pompono". Started on the 410 over the hundred and nothing. Worked southwest to within sight of Tower and dolphin were as thick as I have seen. We kept about 40 which was 35 too many.....
Great day on the water for my 1st trip after surgery.
Regards,
dw

Dave- glad you enjoyed the trip. We didn't end up going sunday but it sounds like we should have. The regulator behind the Tag-n-stick had 2 blue marlins along with a good showing by some other boats.

Dave, great to hear you back out on the water! Nothing wrong with bending a rod on some bailers for the first trip back!!
