Default Full Choke 6/26 Billfish Report

Figured I would post a quick report from yesterday's action. Today we wanted to focus mainly on billfish. Ran in the middle of a nasty little storm for a good bit of the morning but when the rain cleared it was pretty the rest of the day.

Ran North and dropped em on scattered grass. Hooked up immediately on a couple gaffers and stuck around there for 30 minutes, catching 3 gaffers and a couple bailers. Worked away from that area as the charter boats were picking it over heavy and briefly hooked a white only to have it spit the hook. It was pretty watching that thing jump all through the spread. Continued North and had a slow couple of hours with a couple mystery bites and that was it. Right after lunch time we decided to try some shallower water for a bit and 15 minutes after coming inside, hooked up Blue Marlin!! Came up on the short rigger plug popped clip and faded but we made a sharp turn and he came back on the longrigger- game on. Bad thing was that it came up on 80 pound leader, not the outfit we wanted to be using but we took our time. 45 minutes later we had the release. We were just putting the second line out when the only rod in the spread popped the clip. Dropped it back, back, waaay back and finally hooked it. Hooked up white marlin! Fish put on a great show and we had the release a couple minutes later.

Decided to work inside and look for a sail but didn't have any luck. Did catch a nice 35-40 pound gaffer inside though. All in all a great day on the water.

Ended up 1 blue, 1-2 one whites, and 9-10 dolphin

I'll post up some pictures later

Nice work Alex! The Full Choke is having a killer year!! Way to break her in right.

Were you guys targeting whites...is that why you had light leader on your long riggers? I hope you snapped a pic of your leader after that BM was done with it!

We were running a mixed spread to accommodate blues and whites/sails. That longrigger bait on 80 pound was a tuna rig and hadn't been in the spread long. I put it out because the bigeye bite had just busted wideopen a couple miles outside of us. The blue came up on the short big bait and faded, only to suicide the longrigger before we could do anything. We got leader and babied it only to have him run off for another 10 minutes. When we got it back the second time I wasn't letting go as our angler was tired and we wanted to catch another so we got some wraps and the fish wasn't ready to come any closer so we broke him off 10 feet from boat.
