Since this site has been slow the past week I figured I'd post a quick report of our trip last Saturday.
Left docks bright and early and with it being my buddy's birthday, we had a mixed crowd of people on board. Some had never been offshore before. Got out there and the scattered grass around the 520 wasn't producing greatly for anybody. We just wanted a few dolphin to please everyone and then go searching for a Will's first billfish on his birthday. Worked offshore to get out of the grass when Capt Elson recognized a couple boats hanging tight way out. As we got closer we realized that they were bailing dolphin around two pallets that were hoilding big time. Two boats ran in and began bailing as the first two had their limit. After asking permission and getting the OK for some "leftovers," I busted out the bailing gear and went to work. 20-30 minutes later we had 40-45 bailers and everyone was having a good time! We even brought out the bass rods and had a ball fighting them on that.
Got back on the troll and picked up a couple gaffers and that was it! We fished 7 miles outside the point looking for the big girl but didn't have any luck raising one. Came back inside to the second change looking for tuna and didn't have any luck with them despite bonitos and pilot whales everywhere, it was pretty. Oh well it was a great time and look forward to doing it again. Even enjoyed a nice dip in the stream before heading in
We'll be back at it on the Regulator this weekend!
