wahoo rig
I'm trying to think of a way to make a wahoo rig similar to my fluro pin rigs. Does anyone have a pic of a wahoo pin rig that they have made that they wouldn't mind sharing and could you explain the materials used? I appreciate it....David

Mark, I halfway expected you to show mw a fluro leader!!! j/k What kind of wire is that that you used and how did you make the pin part of that? I like pin spring rigs, but figured that I would probally have to wind the wire thru the eye socket or something to that effect.

#9 wire will be fine for those type of rigs. Can't speak for Mark, but to make your pin I just leave a tag end at the end of your wire wraps instead of breaking it off (the leftover wire IS your pin). If you want a weight, slide that up your wire prior to wraps and then back down over the wraps before bending up your pin.
If you're hell bent on using a spring, you could also slide that over the wire before your wraps.
As opposed to Mark's pictures, I tend to find myself using a 7731 needle eye hook when dealing with wire. Mark is that a 7731 in your pics? Looks like it but wasn't sure.

Here ya go "Big Boy". The pin rig #9 wire goes through the first crimp, the weight, the second crimp, the hook eye and then back through them again. It follows the same path as the floro. It's stealthy for tuna and give you about 2 inches of teeth protection where you need it most. Of course you may not need anything. Don't you usually catch 50 pounders on mono and a 25???

Dude!! Do you remember what happened to me on that trip? I reeled in that one tuna and mahi, and proceeded to puke my guts out the rest of the time. I sure wasn't looking at how he rigged his terminal tackle!! lol

Do you mean this fish?? lol If I had 7 Tiagra 50's and one TLD 25 fishing, the TLD 25 would get bit every time and by the biggest fish. Never fails.

So.... I made what my idea of what would work for a wahoo rig. Is this wire leader long enough, you think, and would you just attach your main line to this via a snap swivel, a knot, or what. I'm thinking I should have probally made the wire a total length of about a foot. But I was thinking of maybe making this a wahoo/tuna rig where it would be protected from the teeth of a hoo, but still stealthy enough for a tuna if I hid the wire behind a skirt and added my normal flurocarbon leader. One other thing I'm not real crazy about is the haywire twist at the end. I belive I'd rather crimp that onto a mini swivel like I do my regulat tuna rigs. Suggestions. Thx

David I'm confused as to what's going on in this picture...
1.) Did you just run the wire through the hook eye and crimp after the weight?
If so a definite no no.
2.) The haywire looks a little shotty...I'm not perfect at twisting wire either but I'll keep doing it until the rig itself is perfect, just may not be the first time. You want your twists to be tight. You don't want one side of the wire simply twisting on top of the other.
If I'm strictly wahoo fishing (which I don't do a lot of) I'd pull wire leaders about 10-12 ft in length connected to your main line.
If I'm tuna fishing I am not pulling any wire. I would suggest you not try to combine the two as tuna won't hit wire very often these days.
If you're fishing OI, a wahoo will obviously be bycatch while tuna fishing, so why not rig strictly for tuna? The same goes with tuna being a bycatch out of MHC...
What size wire are you using?
