Well after the carnage that was reported on tuesday I was jacked to head offshore the following day. We left at 5 am and began our 21kt cruise to the gulfstream. Day started off poorly as I realized that I left my sunglasses! First time I've ever done this and it sucked not having them.
Pointed her towards where the fish were caught yesterday, which was deep and north of the point. Dropped lines and picked up a pretty nice gaffer quickly. Then the monotony set in. We didn't have any more action until after lunch. Boats that ran south of us were into the gaffer fishing pretty hard and some boats around us were picking off a tuna or two here and there but nothing like the day before. Some boats had great days, a lot did not.
Just after lunch I hear there he is! Left teaser blue marlin! Of course I had just laid down for a quick nap 20 mins earlier so I missed the action but the clicker was off on the teaser and brandon turned around seeing it getting sucked out. Reel it away from him and try to dump the flat to him but no dice....he faded. Minutes after I hear what I've been waiting for all day....POP, POP, POP! Finally got three on. They hit some bigger rods and we made short work of them landing all three. Two smaller ones and one that was 40#. Picked up shortly after that as Dad had to get back and leave to Raleigh that afternoon. I do believe most tunas were caught later on in the afternoon but all in all a good day on the water even though it was on the slow side.
I love the afternoon bite out of OI!! You wont see use come back in early this time of year..Our best fishing always seems to be late in the day...Great photos,, Mark

Mark, does that mean I can sleep late and still catch all I want.?
