Default My Sons Personal Best!

A friend, my son Matthew and I got out on Saturday night. Our plan was to get Matthew a big Snook on a Pinfish. After getting bait we got to our spot just prior to the slack tide and we figured we’d have to wait for a while before the bite would turn on with the outgoing tide. I decided to cast around a DOA Bait Buster while we waited. On the second or third cast I hooked to with a nice fish.

The first fish for the night went 34 inches.

Since the fish were still active we decided to have Matthew give it a try. On the first cast Matthew hooked up with a nice fish.

After a real nice fight, Matthew boated his largest Snook to date which went 33 ½ inches. He was all smiles.

A little while later it was Matthews turn again and he hooked a monster fish. He did everything right but lost the fish after a couple minutes. Later I picked up another nice fish that went 33 inches. For the night we caught just 6 Snook but 3 went over 33 inches. It was another wonderful fishing trip with my son and I can't wait to do it again.

Jeff

Sweet. I've never caught a snook...what could you compare the fight to that I may have caught up here (VA/NC)?

Thanks guys. Just for information purposes the "average" Snook for our waters is between 16" and 25". Any fish over 28" is considered a sweet catch. Matthews largest fish prior to this trip was 28" so he really improved his record! Snook hit very hard and make long runs. We typically fish the "average" fish with medium-light gear, 10 to 15 lb braid. For these big boys we step it up to keep'em out of the rocks using 20 to 40 lb braid and 50 lb leader.
