Default The 1st. offshore trip of 09.........

Went out in 2 boats searching for Groupers in about a 30 mile range in 100 feet of water, had a a few shorts Scamps, 1 keeper Scamp, several Grunts, a few Pinky's, 1 juvenile King & lot's of Sharks.......

Sea conditions were calm & flat, so we ran another 20 miles out to the edge of the Stream , 200 feet of water & it was on...........unfortunatley they were AJ's ---- BIG AJ'S

We were having a BAD day - had a Wahoo bite through 500# kelvar assist hooks, had him on for about 15 seconds, several Groupers came unhooked on the way up, massive tangles when a hungry AJ took 2 baits.........

Our buddy did manage to land 2 Africian Pompanos & we finally landed one stud Red Grouper & a JoltHead Porgey.

On our return to the ramp, spoke to a few other fisherman that also went out & did not do much better - except for a few big Flounders - nobody limited out on Groupers........

Seth's AJ's before he collapsed from exhaustion.......ICM

ICM, sounds like you did better than us with the grouper. We lost a very nice one halfway up and released two short hinds. We got some pinky's, b-liners, grunts, and BSB. We were out at Doorstep. Where app. were ya'll at?

Where is the "Doorstep"?........What inlet did you leave from?

We started at the Red & White area lot's of good fishing in the past made our way to 200 feet - I don't know if it has a name - my first time out there, but if wouldn't be my last - plenty of marine life at the beginning of the Stream............

We lost a few nice fish on the way up, never happened before, must have been something freaky in the air - it happened to you & others that I spoke to at the ramp..........ICM

Here is a post I made locally.

I fished today with my two kids and my good friend and his son in Steve’s boat. We left the dock just before 8:00 and were fishing by 9:15. We fished primarily with dead bait consisting of Sardines and Squid on a variety of rod & reel combinations including a medium/light spinning combo with 20 lb braid, a heavy combo spinning with 50 lb braid and two conventional Torium 30’s.

My daughter has been fishing all her life but had not been past 15 miles offshore in a few years. Sydnee was the first to hookup and boated a 18” Red Grouper which she released.

Minutes later it was Matthew’s turn to fight what ended up to be the second keeper fish of the day a 21” Red Grouper.

Later it was Harrison’s turn to play with the light tackle.

Our family with some of the keepers.

Steve and Harrison with a couple more keepers including Harrisons personal best a 26 ½ Gag.

A couple more photos of the crew.

Fishing from 9:15 to around 1:15 we boated well over 100 fish including 1 Gag @ 26 1/2” and 5 Red Grouper from 20” to 24”. All five of us caught one keeper fish with Matthew getting two……………. Imagine that!!!! A special day for sure.

Jeff

ICM, we were out of Bogue Inlet at Emerald Isle. Doorstep is app. 33 miles south out of Bogue. Were ya'll fishing out of wilmington? We didn't see a soul offshore yesterday. It was pretty quiet. We ended up coming back in to Xmas rock to try and get some BSB. I'm wondering where the grouper are, because we always bring some back from out there

Jeff looks like another good time on the water with friends & family.........ICM

David......We fished out of Masonboro Inlet at Wrightsville Beach.......went south

Got a friend that been commercial fishing for Gags, his Sat. trip we had 7 boxes all within sight of land on the Sat.........His Sun trip he only had a total of 25 Gags ( he noticed that the Gags bodies were warm on Sat & cold on Sun.)

Think we over ran them because we all were suffering from cabin fever & just wanted more time on the water.

Hopefully we will be fishing with our buddy ( the Commercial Fisherman ) next trip.........

We do really good on the Bonitos in April near Christmas Rock out of NRI ...........ICM
