Offshore try using dacron backing for your filler toe mon will eventually rot out and will also wick the moisture away from the spool. For the most part you will never have to change out the dacron from the reel.

I'm comfortable with solid spectra to the spool, have 8 or 10 reels that have been spooled to the max for well over 5 yrs .... 1000 to 1500 yds. The only time I respooled was when I upgraded (65 to 80) on some 30 Tiagra/Penn Int's. Put the 65 on some smaller reels. Never seen any corrosion on the spools when I did ... but I wash them down with a mild soapy solution after each use, then spray with WD-40 ... I buy it by the gal. at Home Depot.

My 2¢
